Compulsory Vaccinations:
Anti Diphtheria-tetanus (DT)
Polio vaccines (IPV and OPV)
Anti-Hepatitis B (HB).
Optional:
Trivalent vaccines for measles
Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)
Vaccination against Haemophilus influenzae b (Hib)
Against pertussis (DTP if associated with Anti Diphtheria-tetanus, and P if single).
Conscientious Objection to compulsory vaccinations: you can decide not to submit your child to compulsory vaccinations (polio, diphtheria, Tetanus and Hepatitis B). Thanks to the inter ministerial circular of 23 /9/98 before and the DPR 355 26 /01/99 later, all students who are not vaccinated can attend school regularly. There still is a problem for children to attend nursery schools, since these structures are not among those to which the circular relates to, some regions, including Emilia Romagna, have granted this possibility (circular of the regional health councillor 1998/12/ 1/1). IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW THAT….
There are temporary or permanent side effects for vaccinations linked to the state of health of the child, to the medical history and to the individual vaccines (see possible allergies to substances contained). It is therefore necessary to be informed by the physician with whom you will assess whether the vaccination should be postponed or avoided. (See Circular no. 9 of 26 March 1991). There is a law, number 210 of 1992, which imposes the USLs of providing all the information needed to evaluate the opportunity to perform the compulsory vaccinations on one's children. If the parent has any doubts, we suggest sending a letter to USL asking for precise information.
